I always feel like they want to keep selling me more and more….I just want a simple term life insurance policy for myself, and my husband. What is the EASIEST way to get this set up, sans all the sales rigmarole?

Contact a local agent, and be upfront with them. Explain to them that you are not currently interested in other lines of insurance, and tell them exactly what coverage you are looking for. If they want the business, they will listen to your request. If you have auto or home owners insurance with a local agent, start with them. Since they already have your other policies, they will be less likely to hassle you, AND you may qualify for additional discounts on your auto and home policies by also carrying a life policy with the same company.
You have a serious problem as insurance is usually sold through either agents, corporates or channel partner etc. The plan you are asking is having the least commission for them so i fear they will take any intrest in your deal, I have no idea what country you are in, but you can alk for some ULIPs with high allocation, low mortality charges, 0 surrender penalty, If you think you are regular at paying premiums you can go for term plan as they are not provided for life long and you need to renew them every year.
Best of luck/insurance.
Decide on exactly what you want. Term policies can be 10 yr, 20 yr, 30 yr. Decide on the amount of the policies. $100k, etc. Then call an agent in your area. Tell the agent you want a quote on a term policy, the lenght and the amount. Let them know if you are a smoker or not, if you are over weight or not, and if you have any health issues. That will determine how you may be rated for the policy. If they start asking any other questions like why you want a term policy and not a whole life policy…stop them right there and tell them you don’t want advise…just the quote.
I don’t know what state you are in so I can’t help with agents in your area. But, if you have any questions you can email
I think Bekki had it right…you need to find an agent and be up front with them about your feelings.
Your only option would be shopping online and I would highly recommend avoiding this unless you are very knowledgable of the industry, products and companies. Buying online will only tell you which company is cheapest, it will not make any suggestion that is the best fit for you. And even after applying online you’ll still need to deal with someone for follow ups and future servicing of the policy.
Your best bet is to find a lisensed broker that has access to multiple companies. a broker is in the business of doing what is right for the client and finding the best product to suit them. A captive agent (someone that only deals with one company) will just try to sell you whatever they offer in hopes to close the deal before you shop around. Not everyone is like that, but in myexperience as both a broker and a captive agent, that’s how I was trained.
Don’t be afraid to meet with multiple brokers as well to find someone that you feel comfortable with. A good agent doesn’t pressure a person, becuase they know if you don’t buy, the next person will. A desperate agent that gives the hard close needs to pressure people becuase they are broke and need the money.
Well, talk to a salesperson. Or, you can contact and they’re pretty good about not bugging you too much (no affiliation).
If you go online for one of those comparative rating sites, be aware that 1. those rates don’t stick – they just get the best possible rate, assuming you’re super healthy, to reel you in. Bait quotes. and 2. those sites harvest your personal information, and sell it to agents, so you’ll get a gazillion calls from a whole bunch of different agents.
If you are relatively healthy, know what you need and are just looking for a basic term or whole life insurance plan then their are several high quality online life insurance sites. They usually give you the listings of many companies and act as your agent with the insurance companies so you don’t really have to deal with any sales type people.
I’m not endorsing any of these but
For fully underwritten (aka medical exam required), I’ve worked with and trust insure.com, quickquote.com, and zanderins.com.
For simplified issue (aka no medical exam), I’ve worked with and trust insure.hsbcusa.com, rbcexpressterm.com, and gardenstatelife.com.
I work for Garden State and write for their blog as a disclaimer.
You can do it all online… I used AARP as I am a member… but there are others as well… I almost never talk to people to set up my needs.. it gives me more time to think without pressure and I make better decisions that way.. I also went thru National Ins Co for my auto ins and they have life ins also…
